TRANSPORTATION IN SINGAPORE

BUSES              CAR               MRT               TAXI

There are two main public bus companies in Singapore, Singapore Bus Service (SBS) and Trans Island Bus Service (TIBS).

You can easily get from one point to another by bus with an ez-link Card, which can also be used on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), as the bus system covers all of Singapore with sometimes more than one bus plying the same route. Bus services are regular and inexpensive and most of the buses are air-conditioned. There are many types of buses, from mini-buses to double-deck to super-long buses that can take 110 passengers.

There are also feeder bus services which provide loop services from bus terminals to housing estates. The services are regular and cheap with a flat fare irrespective of distance traveled.

Bus fares vary according to the distance traveled. You must have exact fare ready as all buses are One-Man-Operated where the driver does everything and does not give change. It is therefore, important for you to know your route and fare beforehand. The bus guide is a good source of information and it is available at all leading bookstores or SBS Head Office.

Certain groups of people are entitled to special rates when they travel on buses or MRT. Senior citizens, children below 1.2 metres in height and students with concession cards are given concessionary rates

Operating hours: From 6am to 12 midnight. Check at respective bus interchanges or bus stops for precise bus arrival/departure timings.

Adult Fares on buses

With the exception of flat-fare and Townlink services, adult fares are calculated based on the number of fare stages travelled. Each fare stage is about 0.8 km. These fare stages coincide with specific bus stops of each route. Half-fare stages occur at bus stops between the fare stages.

Townlink Services

TownLink services involve the merging of feeder services to provide direct links between neighbourhoods within the same town as well as to connect passengers to trunk services at bus interchanges and to the MRT. This will enhance travel between towns and reduce bus transfers between neighbourhoods.
